Panerai drops the Submersible Elux LAB-ID

With an “on-demand” lume.

Hot off the press is a new 49 mm “Beast” with a trick up its sleeve .a push button that switches on the lume and it stays on unto the button is pressed again . as long as the watch is moving it should stay lit and will last 30 mins without movement. it isn’t battery powered it uses a six barrel Rotor. The word “Elux,” an abbreviation of “electroluminescence” from Wikipedia ”  is an optical and electrical phenomenon, in which a material emits light in response to the passage of an electric current or to a strong electric field.”

the hands and indices are still coated with superluminova X2 for those times when you need a quick time check in the dark. the watch case is made of  Ti-Ceramitech a titanium material that is 44% lighter then steel and 10 times tougher then ceramic.

All this technology doesn’t stop it from being a serious dive watch with 500m WR but for nearly $100,000 it needs to be. in this writers humble opinion the light trick is a “look what we can do” gimmick and will only be bought by the super rich.
