Will it stay in my collection longer then the FXD it replaced? …read on!!

My friends will recall my initial excitement when i got my MN21 FXD, how it was never off the wrist and the same friends then became horrified when it was “kicked to the Curb” for the subject of this piece. The classic 3861 speedy ….

As explained in my FXD article I have always loved “spacy” type stuff and the whole “this is the same model as astronauts wear” is just too damn cool for school, I bought my 2021 model – the proper one with Heselite crystal ( no milky ring for me ) in 2023 from a mutual friend in Spain.

It came in a beautiful box big enough for me to sleep in, with a loupe, strap tool, and a Velcro strap. ( the watch came fitted on the Omega Bracelet. ) 2 days after collecting it I visited RJ at Fratello Watches HQ and he kindly gifted me 2 leather straps. ( thank you, Robert)

This watch is so iconic .. I love hand-wound watches and the ritual of “bringing them back to life” when you haven’t worn it for a while.

Because I own many watches (Too many TBH) wearing it again after say a month is always a joyful experience, especially if you change the strap to something different at the same time and feels like a completely new watch! my current bracelet of choice is a modern faithful reproduction of the Forster Komfit Bracelet from the 60’s this was a popular choice for astronauts to wear in civies but its unique design allowed it to fit over a bulky spacesuit if required but a Velcro strap that wrapped around was the more common one supplied.

I will be trimming down my collection eventually but the speedy is a keeper.. it is part of my ever-growing “constellation collection which comprises other models that breached the earth’s atmosphere throughout the years.
